Joseph Belan – Managing Director

Prior to joining Pala Investments AG in September 2006, Joe was Head of Metals and Mining and Steel in Investment Banking at Goldman Sachs, London.  Joe has 10 years of investment banking experience, working at Goldman Sachs (2004-2006) and CSFB (1997-2004). 

Over the course of his career, Joe has worked on a number of landmark advisory and financing transactions in the metals and mining industry including Mittal Steel's unsolicited bid for Arcelor (2006), AngloGold Ashanti’s $1.5bn equity offering (2006), the sale of Russian precious metals company Polymetal (2005),  the LBO of RAG American Coal (2004) by Blackstone and First Reserve (2004), Barrick’s acquisition of Homestake Mining (2001), and the divestiture of Royal Dutch Shell’s international coal business (2000). 

Joe received his Honors Business Administration degree from the Ivey Business School, University of Western Ontario.

Joe serves on the board of Norcast Castings Company Limited.
